The High Impact Technology Education Conference (HI-TEC) will be held July 23-26 at the Denver Marriott Tech Center (Colorado). If you are a secondary or postsecondary educator, counselor, industry professional, trade organization staff member, or technician wanting to update your knowledge and skills regarding preparation needed by the existing and future workforce for companies in the high-tech sectors that drive our nation’s economy, this conference is for you!

The conference will offer 15 preconference workshops and three industry site tours on Monday and Tuesday, while the Wednesday and Thursday main conference will feature keynote speakers and 60+ breakout sessions. There will be an awards luncheon and Technology Showcase with an exhibitor reception including poster sessions and door prizes.

Reservations are now open at the Denver Marriott Tech Center Hotel under the Hotel/Travel tab at www.highimpact-tec.org. Credit cards will not be charged when you make your reservation, but will be charged upon check out. Registration information will be available March 1.

2011 HI-TEC Conference Brings Together 500 Technology Educators

The 2011 High Impact Technology Exchange Conference (HI-TEC) brought together more than 500 participants for four outstanding days of professional development and networking including 18 workshops, 65 presentation sessions, three tours, several group meetings, and a technology showcase with 45 exhibitors. The Hyatt Regency provided a convenient and comfortable venue for meetings and the city of San Francisco offered a myriad of opportunities within walking distance for dining, shopping, sightseeing and yes, cable car rides! This year's conference was produced by 26 NSF ATE centers and projects with support from the National Science Foundation and contributions from corporate sponsors Lockheed Martin and EMC Corporation. The conference was coordinated by the Center for Occupational Research and Development (CORD) and managed by seven committees (Executive, Business, Marketing, Program, Dissemination, Sponshorship, and Awards) comprised of representatives from the NSF ATE centers and projects.

Each year, HI-TEC's Awards Committee solicits nominations from the ATE centers and projects and selects winners of three techological education awards. The following recipients were honored at the annual HI-TEC Awards Luncheon at the 2011 conference:

Educator of the Year Award: Presented to David Fricton, SpaceTEC National Certification Team, for excellence in technology training and education.

Industry Recognition Award: In Memory of Dr. John E. (Jack) Johnston, ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, for excellence in industry leadership for technology training and education.

Innovative Program Award: Presented to Patricia Taylor, Dean of Engineering, Science & Allied Health, Thomas Nelson Community College; and Stewart Harris, Engineer, NASA Langley; for their work in professional development that influences hiring practices and strengthens interest in STEM programs.

The annual HI-TEC Conference consistently provides one of the best-rated opportunities for professional development, group meetings, networking, and sharing of best practices among secondary and postsecondary technological educators, technicians, industry professionals, and trade organizations. New! Robotic Demonstrations Announced
The Technology Showcase will feature two special exhibitions in a designated demonstration area: BattleBots on Tuesday and FIRST Robotics on Wednesday. High school and community college students will be on site, chaperoned by faculty members as they showcase their robots. BattleBots are remote-controlled, armed and armored machines that students design and/or build. They will be placed in a 13' x 13' enclosed arena to do battle in the Technology Showcase on Tuesday. The object is for one "bot" to dominate or disable the other. FIRST Robotics challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard "kit of parts" and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in various competitions. Students from Cesar Chavez High School in Phoenix will show off their creations in a roped-off area in the Technology Showcase on Wednesday.

Technician education is critical for the viability of our high tech industries. We invite you to support our national effort through sponsorship of this year’s High Impact Technology Exchange Conference (HITEC), http://www.highimpact-tec.org/. We are pleased to currently have the financial sponsorship of the National Science Foundation and the Intel Corporation for this unique event.

We have three levels of sponsorship and work closely with all of our sponsors to provide value in terms of visibility and acknowledgment. The levels are:

Title Sponsor: This is reserved for amounts of $25,000 or more. We have the capacity for three title sponsors and so far the National Science Foundation has committed at this level. This level achieves the maximum visibility in terms of the conference program, website, and press.
Sustaining Sponsor: This level is $10,000 and depending on the wishes of the sponsor we can select keynotes, award luncheons, or other major functions to be branded with this sponsorship level. This level also provides a complimentary exhibit booth space in the Technology Showcase should that be desired (booth services, electricity, furniture, and handling fees are not included).

Contributing Sponsor: This level is $5,000 and we use break functions, receptions, conference bags, and the like to highlight this level of sponsorship.

HI-TEC is an expansion and outgrowth of the SAME-TEC conference which was held annually over the last 12 years. HI-TEC represents a topical expansion into a large number of workforce preparation areas in disciplines that range from biotech and IT to manufacturing and nanotechnology. The key focus is community college level programs in these areas. We anticipate attendance numbers in the 600-800 range. We currently (May 2009) have 480 paid registrations.

Dear Friends of Advanced Technological Education:

We hope you have already heard about, and are making plans to attend, the High Impact Technology Exchange Conference (HI-TEC) to be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, this summer.

Please check out the latest brochure, a four-page Program Preview summarizing information about the conference. Please share with your contacts this and other information found in the Marketing Toolkit. There you will also find a flyer targeted to technicians so they will know what the HI-TEC conference has in store for them.

On the website and in the brochure you will see an array of preconference sessions that will be offered on July 19-20. These choices include three options for industry tours on Monday, July 20. Following the day-and-a-half of preconference sessions, there are two full days of main conference sessions (36 presentations) on July 21-22.

The Technology Showcase exhibits will feature the work of the 20+ National Science Foundation funded Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE) centers and projects which partnered to present the HI-TEC conference, as well as exhibits by other technology programs and technology providers.

HI-TEC conference (www.highimpact-tec.org) planners want you to have every opportunity and reason to attend the July 19-22 conference in Scottsdale, Arizona. So, the early registration deadline is being extended to May 31. This means you can save $50 if you register by that date.

Besides having an affordable registration, there are other great reasons to attend:

National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education (NSF-ATE) centers and projects are sharing their wealth of information in several high technology areas in a program that includes: Advanced Manufacturing Technologies • Agricultural, Environmental, and Energy Technologies • Biomanufacturing • Biotechnology • Engineering Technologies • Geospatial Technologies • Information, Communications, and Security Technologies • Learning and Evaluation • Micro- and Nanotechnologies • Optics and Photonics Technologies. The main conference is on July 21-22.

The National Science Foundation's Advanced Technological Education (NSF-ATE) program awards more than $50 million a year to centers and projects that improve technological education through activities such as curriculum development, teacher professional development, and field experiences for faculty and students.

This July in Scottsdale, Arizona, about two dozen NSF-ATE centers will host HI-TEC (High Impact Technology Exchange Conference), a national event where technical educators, counselors, industry professionals, and technicians can go to improve their knowledge and skills in cutting-edge technologies. The HI-TEC program will include workshops and breakout sessions on technology applications in areas such as agriculture, biotechnology, cybersecurity, computer virtualization, digital logic, electronic systems, engineering, GIS and geospatial, information and communication, manufacturing, microsystems, nanotechnology, optics and photonics, telecommunications, and wireless networks, to name a few.

In addition to the main conference on July 21 and 22, the event will provide a day and a half of preconference opportunities on July 19 and 20 for in-depth examination of a broad range of technical concentrations. HI-TEC is the place to be this summer if:

You work in a high-tech industry or train people who do.

Online Registration Now Open for High Impact Technology Exchange Conference!

A consortium of National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) centers and projects today announced the official opening of online registration for the High Impact Technology Exchange Conference (HI-TEC) to be held July 19-22 at the Fairmont Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. HI-TEC (formerly known as SAME-TEC and ATE-CON) is a national conference on advanced technological education where technical educators, counselors, industry professionals, and technicians can update their knowledge and skills. Charged with Educating America’s Technical Workforce, HI-TEC will focus on the preparation needed by the existing and future workforce for companies in the high technology sectors that drive our nation’s economy.

HI-TEC workshops and sessions uniquely explore the convergence of scientific disciplines and technologies. Featured technologies include: advanced manufacturing technology; agricultural, environmental and energy technologies; biomanufacturing; biotechnology; chemical and process technologies; engineering technologies; information, communications and security technologies; learning and evaluation; and micro- and nanotechnologies.

Preconference technical workshops, grant development workshops, and local industry tours will be offered on Sunday, July 19, and Monday, July 20. General conference sessions, keynote speakers, and a technology showcase will take place on Tuesday, July 21, and Wednesday, July 22.

Community college and university faculty, high school teachers, workforce development advocates, counselors, industry professionals, and technicians are all invited to attend.
